VAD Art Director

Overview

As VAD Art Director on Black Adam, I led a team of around eight Unreal Engine set artists in the art department. We built and lit the environments and key imagery with the production designer and DP, and my tech artists ran an in-house multi-user VR scout room so the key creatives could scout out of Burbank several times a week. We iterated each virtual set through a virtual art department (VAD) workflow before passing it to Day for Nite for previs animation.

From there, we delivered virtual storyboards imagery for director Jaume Collet-Serra, production designer Tom Meyer, and VFX supervisor Bill Westenhofer to paint over in concept art, cut into storyboards, or use as direct reference. All assets were then handed to VFX as a starting point for each environment in the film.
