Virtual Production Supervisor

Overview

On Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania I came onboard as virtual production supervisor, brought in to introduce Marvel to the process for the first time. I recruited and built a hybrid UK/US virtual art department of 15 artists, hired into the art department but under VFX, giving the department an arm that bridged art, VP, and VFX. VAD Art Director Carlos Fueyos was based in America, and I was his boots on the ground in London, working with VFX Supervisor Jesse James, DP Bill Pope, production designer William Htay, and VP Producer Robert Keyghoubad.

Over five months we designed sets in Unreal Engine that were shared with set designers, VFX studios, and ILM's stage team. The biggest challenge was the multi-user VR scout, before Unreal Engine had that built in, we connected people in Hawaii, LA, New York, and London, each from a VR headset in their living room, syncing feeds live so they could scout together. Across around 65 scouts we delivered 200+ stills of camera placements the team used for storyboards, previs, and reference on the day.
