The Call of the Wild
Film
Lead Unreal Artist
Overview
I was lead Unreal artist on Chris Sanders' The Call of the Wild, working through Fox VFX Labs. We built the film's world in Unreal Engine. Everything was one continuous environment, so the filmmakers could move through it, block the action and find their shots, followed by motion capture for the humans and the dogs.
I brought my own small team onto the project, an engineer and four artists working under me. We created most of the film's locations, building the environments and the lighting, and worked directly with the key creatives: production designer Stefan Dechant, art director Andrew Jones, and VP Producer Glenn Derry. After working with the art-department, we'd deliver environments to Halon Entertainment who created all animation and previs shots.
